To look really great in a new top (just like it looked great on the catalogue model), you first need a good fit around the shoulders. Not an easy task when ladies' proportions vary too much for clothing makers to cater for. But if your shoulders are a bit narrow or wide - relative to your torso - then look out for raglan sleeves, batwing sleeves, etc. That is, those sleeves without a seam over the outer shoulder. That way, the top and its sleeves will adjust to your figure.

Experiment with lengths too. Longline tops often look flattering for those extra cuddly ladies, but sometimes those lengthy tops hide too much, so don't over do it. That is, they can make your legs look shorter, mostly by hiding where your hips and true waistline are, but the addition of a thin contrasting belt might solve that.
